Any ideas for inexpensive places nearby to enjoy the snow ... this weekend?

Probably hopeless, but ... we'd love to get away fror a couple days this weekend (yes, NYE, so mostly tough to find) to someplace nearby where we could enjoy the snow. Nearby skiing is a place, but we mostly want a cottage, fireplace, and some snow for the kid to play in. And inexpensive. Any ideas??
