St. Anselm's Abbey question

Anonymous
When you go to St. Anselm's web site, you see lots of interesting information about their top kids (merit scholars, etc). Also, they say their purpose is to "serve young men with demonstrated academic achievement". From this, one certainly learns that they have a lot of smart boys. But, it is hard to find out what range of kids might be comfortable there. Supposed your son is really quite bright, but not so bright that he could ever be confused with Albert Einstein . Would he be comfortable there? I feel uncomfortable asking the admissions people there, as it may lead them to suppose my son is even less bright than he is.

I don't think that you have much to worry about with that. If your DS feels that it is a good fit for him, he should let you know. If St. Anselm's is one of your son's top choice, my suggestion would be to go through the admissions process and take the test. My family decided to go another way but from my experience the Admissions Director will share with you her thoughts on if their school would be a good fit for you or not. St. A is a great school but remember at that grade level, your son's opinion and interest carries the greatest weight. Good luck.

OP to PP: Thank you for that thoughtful reply!

I agree with the PP.

It seems to me St. Anselm's does have a range of different kinds of boys. A "non-Einstein" type should do just fine, provided he is willing to work hard.

There's definitely a range of kids. There are definitely super bright kids and also "average" bright kids who enjoy learning. A kid who is doing well in his current school environment and is looking for more of a challenge would feel comfortable there. I agree with the PP; go through the process and let the Admissions people help you decide if it is a good fit.

Thanks for the helpful comments. If there are indeed "average" bright kids who enjoy learning very much, this might be a good fit. I hope the admissions process works out!
