Meat thermometer question

Am I supposed to leave the thermometer in the meat the entire time it's in the oven or do I open the oven to test it towards the end? (It's a turkey. I pried out the pop-up thermometer.) Thanks.

If it is an instant read thermometer, you do not leave it in. The ones you leave in typically have a cord that connects the probe to a read out device so that you can tell the temp.

You take the temp at the end. Don't forget to let it rest for 15-20 minutes after you are done cooking and befoRe carving to let the juices redistribute back into the meat.
