FEDS Switching to MDIPA. Did you get your insurance card yet?

Anonymous
Those switching ot MDIPA, just wondering if you received your card yet or not. Not sure how to get the ball rolling on Jan. 3 without one.

Thanks.

I switched last year and it was a royal PITA. I hated MDIPA, but if you have a good PCP, maybe it won't be that bad for you. I didn't get cards until late January, but you can call them and you should be able to print out temporary cards from the website. I'm not sure they will have you in the system on Jan. 3. Sorry. They were by far the cheapest for an IVF round so in that sense it was worth it, but for everything else, I'm so happy to be in a different insurance plan this year. (non-fed through husband's new job.)

The cards come much later - the end of January. It seems to be this way for all federal insurance programs when you switch. They don't get you in the system until mid Jan (at least where I work). I had to call HR and hassle them to send in my paperwork earlier than usual. Their stance is you pay out of pocket until the new cards arrive.

print the temporary cards from the website - you can use them for your doctor visits if you have some early in the month.
