I have 2 boxes of candy canes from last season - maybe 2 seasons? - and wanted to crush and use them on deserts. Do they go bad? Will I poison people using 2 year old candy canes?
THey might taste stale or kind of rancid in which case don't use them, of course. But if they smell and taste ok, they are.
In my experience, they don't taste bad or go stale -- they just get chewy. I've put boxes away for the next year specifically for this reason; I had no idea until I saw a thread on DCUM that they actually make 'soft candy canes.'
They don't go bad in the sense that they could poison you but they can get that old/stale candy taste and/or get soft and wet. Taste a piece before using it as a dessert topping.
