Hi,
I have heard several (on this forum) mention hiring advocates or lawyers to help parents get resources from public schools for their special needs kids. Does anyone have specific recommendations? My daughter is ADHD, we had a 504 plan this year, but got very little (OK, nothing) in the way of tutoring or OT. The teachers referred us to outside sources, and we are basically paying for tutors ourselves. I feel the school should be providing more support and want some help. Thanks. |
You could try Suzie Blattner. Not sure if she just does placement stuff or will help with getting services as well. She might be able to give you more infomation. Her number is 301-962-0800 and press 1. |
You can't receive OT with a 504 plan. It's a related service that you can only receive with an IEP with a primary diagnosis. A student with ADHD could qualify for an IEP under Other Health Impaired but only if there is a significant educational impact and it's determined that she requires special education services. |

Suzie Blattner recommended Brian Gruber to us and I had a consult with him. He has been doing this a long time and knows the system in DC and MD.
