Can I buy creme fraiche? Where?

Any tips on where I can buy creme fraiche? Whole Foods? Which aisle?
I live in Arlington and would prefer to find it here if possible, but I'll trek to the district if necessary to save myself this step in a rather complicated recipe I'm trying for xmas.

Whole foods and Balducci's definitely have it.

Whole Foods, in the dairy section, near sour cream, whipping cream, etc.

Even Safeway, Giant and Harris Teeter have it (most of the time). Look at the aisle/stand with the different/international cheeses, not the dairy section with sour cream and yogurt.

I saw some at Trader Joe's.

Wegmans has it.

You can also make it: 1 cup cream to 1 scant tablespoon of buttermilk. Let is sit in a jar in a warm place for 24 hours. And voila...creme fraiche.

I posted that wegmans had it. Two years ago I needed it for Xmas too and that was the only place I could find it, but I saw it last night at giant where they have the nice cheeses.

How do you say creme fraiche? And what exactly is it? Is it basically sour cream?

It's less sour than sour cream, though it has the same consistency.

The Giant I went to in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland did not have it. Noboby that worked there (at least that day) had never even heard of it, and repeatedly attempted to point me to the new flavored cooking cream cheese.
