| Hello - any idea where to find a cleaning person who will do laundry, pick up, straighten up... maybe once a week? Not the regular cleaning service where you spend the time cleaning up before they come so they can clean... |
| We had this. I just put an ad in the housekeeper forum here and on CL. I offered $15/hr for 3 hrs a week of light housekeeping, including laundry, dishes and genral straightening. |
| My cleaning lady does this. Just hired her as I would any other cleaning lady (she was recommended by another person in my apartment building). She's more expensive than most, but so worth it for me because the house is completely perfect after she leaves, no matter what shape it's in when she arrives. |
Yes, but did you get any offers? |
We got a bunch of offers. Some nannies who worked nearby while their charges were in preschool in the mornings, 1 woman who had a part-time job neaby, 1 nearby student, etc. |
| I also pay $15 for this, but I pay for a full day. She does straightening, laundry, dishes, full cleaning (toilets, tubs, floors, etc.), changes sheets, washes towels, cooks a meal for us, and whatever else needs to be done (clean out the fridge one week, re-organize the coat closet another week, pre-wash all our china and set the table right before Thanksgiving, etc.). She doesn't have a car, though, so can only do metro-accessible and can't run errands. |
How did you find someone able/willing to do all this? Was it hard? Did you have to spend much time training her about what you expected (e.g., I always find our cleaning service misses spots - did you have to walk-through the house with her to show her what she was missing?) I'm interested in hiring an individual and ditching the service precisely so I can have someone that will do more project-type cleaning, but I'm worried that it may be more trouble than just doing it myself. |
