I registered there (to make it easy for everyone) and just so unsatisfied with their customer service. Anyway, just wondering if anyone can confirm their coupon policy. I had my shower a few weeks ago and went today to get all the rest of the essentials that I didn't get from my shower and I thought I got a 10% discount. I spoke with several managers who all said I had to fill out some paperwork that HQ sends me, sign and return it and then they would mail me a coupon about 2 weeks before or after my due date (conflicting info depending on manager). I told them that that is ridicolous and said I am here in the store ready to spend more than $300 for the items remaining on my registry, can't they just give me the 10% discount. They said no. And why would they send you the coupon right around your due date? Um,,, I'm trying to be prepared now, not at the last minute. I'm wondering if I should just go register at Buy Buy Baby (where I bought my furniture from) and see if they give me a discount sooner but I don't know their policy either. Experiences appreciated...thanks! |
They send you the coupon after your due date. It's the same as wedding registries, which you can finish at a discount after your wedding. I think the policy is the same across the board, I know it's the same at Buy Buy Baby. |
They know you need everything before your due date, so you'll be willing to spend full price. Thus, no discount until after. It's just the way it works. |
That's really disappointing....the difference between and wedding and baby registries is that for my wedding, it was that would be fun to have! New bedding chip dish, etc. My baby registry has essentials left on it - diamper champer, changing pad etc....oh well I guess I'm going to pay full price! |
Put the diapers in the regular trash can, they are not toxic. Change the baby on the sofa or the bed. You'll end up doing that anyway. The things you mentioned are not essentials at all. Just wait until the baby comes home then go. See what else you need and what you decide you don't need. It really can wait. |
Before you pay full price please rethink what is really essential. If this is your first child, I know everything may seem essential but really you need diapers, a few items of clothing, a safe place to sleep, a thermometer, those squeezey bulbs to remove stuff from throat if choking, and food (unless you're breastfeeding then you don't need to worry about bottles and formula yet!). You can realistically wait for most things until you get the coupon and you'll be fine. Worst case you can run out (or have someone run out) to pick up a couple of things you deem imperative after the baby comes. There is really so much STUFF that we think we need that really ends up not being useful or we don't use for a while. |
I agree. Or just buy it online later - prices at Amazon, babycenter.com, etc. are generally cheaper anyway. |
Or if there are things you really need or want pre-baby, you can just log on to your registry online, move up your due date and have them send you the coupon earlier. |
We're having other problems with Babies R Us. They don't always take things off the registry, even though the buyer has told them they're buying from a registry. So we've gotten several duplicates of big items we'll have to exchange. We've ended up with several items scanning incorrectly so we had to redo a whole bunch of items online after spending hours at the store scanning. It was a real pain because they don't always have the same items in the store and online. |
I have found BRU return policies much more lenient than Target. If I had it to do over again, for a national registry, I would have registered only at BRU. Sorry no experience with BBB |
You can update your registry online yourself too. |
Yeah, I know. And as I said "we had to redo a whole bunch of items online after spending hours at the store scanning. It was a real pain because they don't always have the same items in the store and online." |
What I ended up doing was buying my left overs that I didn't get from my showers at Great Beginnings in Maryland. I ordered them online, and if you spend more than $100 shipping is free, plus I live in Virginia, so I didn't pay tax. And I used the DCUM discount code, so I got 10% off. The items arrived in 2 days, and their online customer service is pretty good (it is like 2 people, sometimes you have to leave a message but they always called me back). 10% is what you would already get off at BRU or BBB, so it worked out the same. |
PP - what's the DCUM discount code? Is there one for other stores too? I am new to the boards and am an expectant mom with a long to-buy list, so would love to know! TIA |
You need to be registered with the website to receive the discount (which is good both online and in the store). Log into the website using the email address with which you are subscribed to the mailing list and your mailing list password. Then you will see a link in the top navigation bar for "Great Beginnings". And voila.
