| I have a half-bag of brown sugar, but it's rock-solid. Any tips for making it usable? |
| Easy! Put it in a bowl with half of an apple, cover with some plastic wrap. Microwave for 30 seconds. Check and break apart if its a huge chunk and its getting softer. Keep microwaving it in short increments until it is softened up. |
| Put in plastic tub. Wet a paper towel and place over the brown suger. Refrigerate and the next day the brown sugar should be soft. |
| I just threw the open bag in the microwave on the low/defrost setting for 35 seconds. Then I manipulated the sugar with my fingers while still in the bag to squish it up. |

Put the sugar topped by a slice of bread in a microwave-safe container and top with plastic wrap. Microwave for 10-20 seconds.
You can also keep brown sugar soft by storing it with a slice of bread on top. |

All good suggestions so far. If I find my sugar's gone rock hard and don't need to use it right away, I'll put it in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel. It'll be soft by the next morning.
It's a good way to store it to keep your sugar from going hard again, once you do get it soft. |
