hi i have a 3 1/2 week old and want to get my hair highlighted... can i bring her with me? any reason not to? chemicals in the air? THANKS! |
| Ask someone to baby-sit as a Christmas gift. You don't want a newborn in a salon for three hours. |

I even have my nails done with baby in the ergo.
go first thing in the morning so the place won't stink. |
Wow. I hope your baby grows up able to balance a checkbook. Those fumes are intense. |
| I never did. IMO the whole point of getting your hair or nails done is to have a little time for yourself. Otherwise why not buy a box of Clairol, put the baby in the swing/wrap/wherever and save yourself the hassle? |
| Wat too toxic (if it's anything like my salon at least). Can your SO or a family member watch her? It's not like highlights are a quick in and out, so she'd be breathing fumes for quite a while. |
Yes. Plus I've never seen anyone bring a baby to the salon while getting their hair done. I'd think you were a loon. |
Plus, it's super-assy to bring a baby to a place where other women go to take a break from their kids (like the nail salon). |
I think the fumes messed up the brains of you both. As I already said, I go first thing in the morning so there's nobody there and the place doesn't stink. The ladies that do my nails know me so they act quick. While one does the feet the other one does one hand at a time so I can have one hand free in case baby wakes up. When I have my hair done I make sure DC is well fed and asleep. Doing it first thing in the morning, again, to make sure we're the only people at the salon. I never had a problem with it. |
Mother of the Year 2010. |
| Oh Good God. These "ladies" are nasty. Go to the salon. Your baby will be fine. |

Hm. I think I'd ask for a bbsitter to come. The only reason is that although my DD #1 was an awesome sleeper, I never knew when she'd wake up and then... well, I'd have to attend to her. I don't think I'd want to attend to her when I was in the middle of getting my head foiled and heated like a baked potato.
That and it would slow down the stylist. If I did bring baby, I'd give the stylist a big-ass tip. I did recently go to a salon where the owner stylist said he'd asked one of his clients to leave with her toddler who was, well, being a normal, rambunctious toddler (making noice, running around, etc.) because it wasn't appropriate for the space. |
| Hey OP-I understand your dilemma. When my DS was about a month old I begged my mother-in-law to come with me so I could still be near him just in case and in case I needed to feed him, etc. It was what I was comfortable with. There were no suffocating fumes and when he got fussy when he woke up she walked him around outside until he fell back asleep. It worked out well for me. I just want to let you know you are not crazy for thinking and asking about such a thing. Good luck! |
Yes. I didn't believe the OP was real until I read the responses of women who take their infants to the nail salon! |

I totally nursed my DD while getting my hair colored at Circe in Old Town. They were very kind and accommodating, and I didn't give a care what people thought about it. She was quiet and I had no more grey hair.
She's 6 now and fine. No harmful effects! |
