Financial Aid application question

Anonymous
This is my first time through this process and I'm a bit confused. The financial aid form is due in January and requires a bunch of information about tax year 2010. While it is not a requirement to file my 2010 tax form, I am required to know my 2010 taxable income, etc. I suspect I will not have all my tax statements by then in order to calculate an exact number. Is it assumed what number I use will be an estimate?

It should be on your paycheck. Look at the last one of the year. It DOES need to be right- they can withhold aid if it is wrong.

But the number on my paycheck does not include deductions (charitable), etc. Sounds like I need to calculate those too. And how about mortgage interest. Just subtract all of those?

Use Turbo tax or any such program to run the numbers. As PPs suggested, use your paycheck stubs for income. You should come pretty close to the actual numbers.

The FA deadlines require you to do your taxes before you are likely to have received your W-2 for the year. Just figure out your gross income from your pay stubs and do your taxes w/TurboTax or similar.
