So, last week, I shaved for the first time. I've always kept things trimmed, but my s/o thought it'd be 'fun' to have a shaving party
So now, we really like it. However, I feel as though the hair down there is much coarser and my normal razor just isn't doing it for me. I also feel the stubble coming back in less than 24 hours. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be shaving in a certain direction? Please HELP! |
| It is normal for hair to start to grow back right away. Nothing you can do. I did laser hair removal and it was the best money spent. Very very little shaving for me ever and no razor rash either. What hair is there is very fine. |
| I'm sorry to say but the only solution that I've found to this problem is waxing. Find a good salon, get waxed and just schedule the appointment and go every 4 weeks and never look back to the razor. It's one of the few beauty splurges that I allow myself - well worth every penny. |
| Eh, I shave... every 4-5 days probably. |
| I tried waxing once. That was the most painful shit ever. Oh my holy god! |

Another fan of waxing here - it's the best solution I've found. If you get really picky about your waxer, it's not as horribly painful. I like Skin Beauty Lounge in DC.
If you insist on shaving, you should buy TendSkin or another skin care product with salicylic acid to help with ingrown hairs (and hence the itching). I've heard that Stridex pads work too, but haven't tried them. |
Only the first couple times are painful. Once you start going regularly there is little to no pain, I promise. |

Re: waxing, it does get less painful after the first couple of times. That said, here are some tips:
1. Make sure the person you go to knows what they are doing, and don't go cheap. This is not a time to pinch (pun intended) pennies or anything else for that matter. 2. The waxer should apply the wax in the same direction your hair grows 3. The waxer should trim down there if necessary prior to waxing, if hair is long waxing will be more painful. 4. Many places recomment taking ibuprofen or some other OTC pain reliever a couple of hours before hand. 5. TendSkin is amazing to avoid ingrown hairs, after shaving or waxing. There's also another product I can't remember the name of that you can order from a salon in Chicago to prevent ingrowns. If anyone knows of this product please post!! |

Huge red flag!! |
| Use conditioner to shave down there. It softens the hair so you get a closer shave and keeps away the razor burn. This also works on beards. |
| Use Magic Shave Cream - it works great and a lot less problems with ingrown hairs than shaving. |
