How to regulate cycles after weaning?

Anonymous
First pregnancy - no problems conceiving. Happened second cycle. Now, 18 months after having baby 1, I am getting really frustrated. My husband and I have been semi-trying (sometimes too tired to have sex as often as truly necessary), but nothing has happened in the 8 months we have been trying. I weaned baby completey 5 months ago. Cycles came back after 10 months, but they have been totally irregular, which makes timing really difficult.

Before baby, I had completely regular cycles - 28 days. Now, I have had various cycles - 28 days, 31, 32, 33, ???. Is there anything I need to do to get back onto a normal cycle? Do I need to do something else?

I feel bad whining since I have one beautiful baby, but I thought it was going to be a lot easier to have the second baby!

Have you tried using the ovulation predictor kits? We had many issues conceiving child#1 (miscarriages and irregular cycles). We finally tried the ovulation predictor kit to make sure we had the right time, since my cylces were very irreg & it worked 1st month. (This was my OB's suggestion) Be sure to follow instructions completely, it requires several days of testing. Best wishes and good luck.

I used "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and the fertility monitor when my cycles were irregular while still nursing at 18 months. I don't think there's anything you can do to make your cycles more regular, but you can at least try to figure out if you are ovulating and, if so, when. Good luck!
