Providence Elementary (Fairfax) Feedback Requested

Any feedback (good or bad) is welcome from current or former parents of students who have attended this school and its middle school Lanier.

I know you asked for first-hand experience, and mine is not. (my kids are too young)... so take it for what its worth.

We currently live in this district. I've heard generally nice things about Providence (from our neighbors, who perhaps are biased). I think it is a nice school. I looked pretty carefully at the info on the Fairfax County schools website, however, and it wasn't what I was hoping for... so we're moving.

I think Providence has a fairly high number of first-generation immigrant children. While this provides a wonderfully diverse setting, it also (I think) has some drawbacks. I think many of the students are ESOL students who are really not fluent in English, and my suspicion is that the school must need to devote a fairly high percentage of its resources to those students. That always worries me a bit as a parent, simply because I know its money the school does not have to put towards other things that might more directly benefit my child.

But in general, I've heard its a nice safe school, with an active group of parents, and caring teachers.
