Little amount of menstrual blood - is this a problem?

Anonymous
I'm 39 and we've been trying to conceive #2 for 4 months. The first preganncy (2 years ago; resulted in a miscarriage) happened on the first try; the second (1&1/2 years ago; our son) happened after 3 months. I'm concerned that this time is taking longer. I'm very regular in my cycle but have noticed in the last 6-9 months that my menstrual flow is much less than it used to be. Strange thoughts cross my mind; the most important being: am I entering the menopause and that's why this time we're not conceiving?

Any advice/thoughts/experience is greatly appreciated.

I have heard the same description from people talking about entering menopause and also from people that were having trouble with their thyroid.
You should ask your doc about changes in your cycle.

Yes, it is likely a sign of hormonal changes accompanying increased age. ITA with the rec to get your thyroid checked (optimal TSH for fertility is less than 2). I also highly recommend acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine (herbs) as augmentations to your TTC efforts. In addition, you should discuss with your OB the possibility of taking progesterone supplementation following ovulation. Best wishes!

I agree with pp. You should get your lining checked by your doc, and use progesterone supplements after ovulation to thicken the lining if doc thinks it is necessary. Either way, talk to your doc.

Thanks guys, this is very helpful. And I'm relieved something can be done...

I was 42 when I conceived-and my cycles are 23-24 days long-with 3 days of bleeding. I was worried that I couldn't conceive but did. It's a sign of aging but you can still conceive.
