Infertility Support and Discussion
I am switching to MDIPA during open season for the infertility coverage and have spent the ENTIRE morning calling their listed primary care physicians and keep getting the same answer -- they would accept me as a patient under my current BC/BS coverage but no new patients who have MDIPA. Now I get I could just go now under BC/BS but I am afraid that when I switch in a month they will drop me and the only reason I need a PCP is to get the stupid referral so I can continue to see my dr at SG. WTF? I canNOT find a doctor!
I had this issue too. I ended up having to go to Georgetown, which really sucks for primary care. I am so glad I'm going back to BCBS. Where are you. There is a practice in Bethesda that is taking new MDIPA patients, but only a few of the doctors are taking them. They are Potomac Physicians Associates and they are in the Camilier Building on Fernwood Road.
i had the same problem last year and went to potomac physicians in bethesda (although i live in dc and work in virginia). no one in dc would take me! except for the fact that all radiology (mammograms, sonograms, etc.) have to be done in maryland, i have not had a problem. they have another office as well not sure where. i did not know that only some of the doctors took mdipa, however. they also have a vip concierge practice on another floor - perhaps those are the doctors who are not taking mdip. i would definitely call them. i was worried about the referral issue and it has actually worked out fine and no one has ever denied me a referral.
i have not had the same problem with finding specialists as i did with a pcp.
This is the reason we chose to go with Aetna. We have to see other doctors beside our RE and I did not want the headache of finding all new doctors as pretty much none of mine to MDIPA. Thankfully we were able to order all of our meds through BCBS before switching to Aetna.
Okay I called Potomac Physicians in Rockville and Kensington with no luck. I will try Bethesda. Thank you. To poster 7:38, how did you order your meds early?
My doctor knew that we were planning on doing a fresh cycle in Jan with new insurance, but that my current insurance (BCBS) covered the meds. So I asked my nurse to order the meds in December and I got three months worth (which lasted through all 3 IVF cycles).
