Is suburban Houston or Dallas good places to raise a family?

Between the crazy traffic and high cost of living, I'm so done with living in this area. The only thing keeping me here was my siblings and parents. But now they're tired of the rat race too so we have collectively made a huge decision to move to another city (all of our families). We would like to go to a warmer climate, with a sizeable Asian population (as we are Asian) and amenities that we're used to (great shopping, ethnic restaurants etc). Right now, Houston or Dallas are high on our lists. Could anyone give me any insight into these two cities and whether they are good cities to raise children? Our goal is for our families to live within a couple miles of each other so the cousins can go to the same school and we can help each other out and lead a simpler life. I know nothing compares to some of the benefits of living in the DC area (diversity, cultural amenities, educated population etc.) but I also feel as if our quality of life is seriously compromised if we continue to stay here.
