Infertility Support and Discussion
One week before pregnancy test and doc calls to say that I need to supplement with prometrium as my progesterone is 5.6. Does anyone have any experience with this? The nurse says that it's not indicative either way of getting pregnant but I'm nervous. If I am pg I'd have to stay on it for 12 weeks! WTF.
Yes, same thing happened to me. It has no effect on whether or not the egg fertilizes and you become pregnant, but your progesterone level does affect whether or not the egg can implant in the uterus. Prometrium helps with implantation and keeping the pregnancy. I was on it for 12 weeks also. It's messy and no fun, but worth it in the end.
Just means your progesterone isn't high enough to sustain a pregnancy or that it is low enough to cause alarm. My doc has me take until 14 days past ovulation, then I take a blood pregnancy test. When it comes out negative I stop taking it. If it was positive, then yes you continue to take it through 12 weeks. No biggie. Just messy and makes you a little light headed/nauseous.
What's the difference between prometrium and progesterone suppositories or are they the same thing?
They're the same thing. Just be grateful you don't have to do the shots in the back (progesterone in oil - PIO)!
