When investigating new elementary schools what do you ask?

New mom to step child that is about to attend elementary school, he will be living with us. New to all of this. Do you ask to meet with the principal? And in general what questions do you ask? Are there specific questions or alerts? I don't see any notices for open houses to attend

Should be an admissions counselor available. I'd wait before you ask for the principal.
