where can I rent electric breast pump?

Anonymous
I am really not looking forward to breastfeeding (failed with my first) but I do want to give my newborn breast milk so I decided to give an electric breast pump a try.
Any recommendations on which electric breast pump is best/easiest to use and where do you rent these things?

Some pediatrician's offices rent them, check with yours, also check with the hospital where you'll be delivering.

The hospital has them for rent and they're great although a little bulky. I rented mine initially for a week then purchased a different model from Buy Buy Baby. I found the one that I purchased (Madela InStyle/backpack version) just as strong as the Madela Harmony. The hospital also rents them for a month, which tends to be cheaper than for just a week. Your hospital may let you rent for a week, should you choose to rent for a month let them know and they will more than likely convert your week to a month....just don't wait until the week is over with before letting them know.

The LC at the hospital can help you decide which make and model is best for you - whether hospital grade, "regular" kind, or even a manual one.

Fairfax Lactation Center also rents out a variety of pumps if you want to compare prices with the hospital's fee schedule.

Good luck and glad to see you are giving BFing a second chance.

I rented a hospital grade pump at Georgetown and they charge by the day ($2). I think they also had regular pumps for rent as well. You can start out by renting and then if you decide to continue you can look into buying one. Unlike a PP, I found a huge difference between the hospital-grade pump (Ameda) and the Medela PIS - but I had issues with low supply, so perhaps that's the reason for the difference.

Best of luck!

I delivered at GT - and the message I received from the lactation consultant there is that GT has the "best" prices around - $2 a day
I want to make you aware that I have a few friends who really struggled with BF for their 1st and for their 2nd had no problems.

1 friend pumped for 2 months for her 1st and her DD never latched. Her 2nd latched and she never needed to pump.

You may be surprised at your ability to BF for #2.

Good luck with what ever works for you.
