A different HG test question..

Do you ever get the score back or just hear Yay or Nay on the application? Thanks

They give you your child's scores and the mean (I think) scores of those who were admitted into the program.

I found the format of the scores to be really confusing and would recommend making an appointment with the school after you recieve them to get a better understanding of what they mean.

Two years ago when my child was accepted the acceptance/denial letter sent (in April, I think) included your own child's scores, plus the mean scores of those accepted into the program.

It's definitely the mean score you get, as I am looking at the acceptance letter in my files.

I'm curious if you did this and what kind of further info you got? We have repeatedly asked when DCs were tested for more explanation about these exams, but MCPS has consistently refused to say how the scores are related to percentile performance, which would give parents some norm-based reference point.

14:00 here. I did check in with the school because I found the scores to be very different from his class performance. I was not fully satisfied with the explanation, but chalked that up to the staff member involved (I think she did not understand the test, scores or percentiles either). I would hope that in the hands of a different administrator, you might get a better understanding, but it sounds like that might be optimistic.

When DC was accepted at the TPMS magnet we got his scores and the mean scores of accepted kids. I heard from other parents of wait-listed or rejected kids that they did not get the scores, but were able to call a number and learn them.
