Private & Independent Schools
Does anyone know if Maret takes mid-year admission? Providing there is space in the class/grade, of course. Any experiences would be appreciated.
I don't know specifically about Maret, but my experience with other (fully subscribed) private schools is that they will only consider mid-year admission under extreme circumstances. The two examples which come to mind are kids who moved to town midyear, and kids who are in an untenable situation at their current school (for example, being bullied). Otherwise, schools don't want to have to field applications outside of the normal timetable.
Highly doubtful unless you are the President. It's hard enough to get in there at the beginning of the year.

OP,
Not typically, I'd call to see what the prospects are. Slim to none is my sense. |
CAn the kid hit a curve ball? I heard Maret nabbed a baseball player from Potomac; he may be starting midyear. You'd think this was the ACC or SEC . . .
OP here. My child's athletic prospects are not the best. Maybe I can get him training over the Xmas break. I do plan on calling, I figure dont ask, dont get! But I was hoping maybe some Maret parent had managed to do it. I do not believe the grade I am looking at is full, since the class sizes are not the same, but they could be saving the spot for some influential family or something.

Well, good luck! You never know, might as well try.

A player leaving Potomac mid-year? I'm thinking not, he'd be on the hook for two tuitions for half the year.
OP Schools do not save spots. Class sizes differ some years because more students enroll than they expect! |
Are Rahm's kids staying the rest of the year?
Even if Rahm's kids leave, the family has to pay the full tuition. In fact, the contracts say that even if your kid is expelled, you have to pay full tuition. So the school financially doesn't have to fill the seats.
His kids got in obviously after school term started, since Obama didn't win until November, so schools obviously make exceptions. But I agree with a PP that unfortunately the parents have to be VIPs in most cases.
