ISO academic tutor who remediates dyslexia, writing, executive functioning issues

Anonymous
Any recommendations for a tutor who remediates dyslexia and writing, and can also teach organizational skills? I don't want someone minimally trained by a generic tutoring company -- I am looking for a tutor who really knows the field, uses research-based methods, and creative ways to teach.

Thanks!

We have an awesome tutor through the Lab School who comes to our home.

We have an awesome Lab School tutor as well, although a bit expensive at $97/hour

Dr Stixrud also has specially trained tutors for about the same price.

I realize this is neither here nor there, I just can't refrain from wondering why $97? Why such an odd number?

I think it's $90 per hour and a travel fee of $7 to cover mileage

Does your child need to be a Lab School student to hire one of their tutors?
Anonymous
No, our child is not a Lab School student and we hired a tutor from there. It's a separate service.

Is the tutor a Lab School teacher or just trained by Lab?
Anonymous
Just trained by Lab, in our case.

Where are you located, OP?

OP here: I'm in Fairfax near GMU. I would like to get a more locally based tutor to avoid extensive travel time. Any other suggestions?

They have tutors all over -- mine lives near me in MD, not near the school.

OP, is your child also getting remediation at school? I ask because the dyslexia research, at least, suggests that effective remediation is done 3-5 days a week. It will be tough to get real dyslexia tutoring PLUS writing tutoring PLUS executive tutoring, all in one package, and only once or twice a week.

OP here: School gives no services. I can't afford more than 2x/week so am hoping I can supplement by doing some work myself.

Talked with Stixrud's group and they don't travel to Virginia. Left messages with Lab School, but haven't heard back.

Any other suggestions? Anyone have experience with Ann Dolin's services?

What's up with the Lab School? I can't get anyone to return my call and all I get is voice mail when I try again.

Interestingly, I called them a while back for admissions info and no one from that office ever returned my call either.
