tell me about your closet organizing system!

I want to buy DH a closet organizing system for xmas. Our closet is about 10 feet long. I was looking at a Rubbermaid model and trying to figure out how well made it is. What do you have and how do you like it?

I had several closets done by Closet Stretchers in Rockville. http://www.closetstretchers.com/ LOVED them. Professionally installed, like CA Closets, but far more reasonably priced and they go all the way to the floor. I doubled the usable space in my closets.

we have Elfa closets in just about every closet in the house (even the office) - I just love the flexibility (we've switched a couple rooms with a new kid on a the way and were able to reuse most of the shelves, etc., but with a new layout).

unfortunately the big sale isn't until January though so it'd be more expensive as an xmas gift...

We have the ikea stolmen closet system and i love it. It's very sturdy and I like that the drawers are solid but it's not pricey. I actually had it in an apartment that I rented, but liked it so much that I had it installed in our small MBR closet when we bought a house.

We used Rubbermaid and like it just fine. Don't love it though.

We splurged for our master closet with California Closets and it's really fabulous. Given we had the money at the time, it was completely worth it. Since then, we've done two other closets (our new daughter's room and our coat closet) in Elfa/Container Store and though I was hesitant at first and not sure of the quality - we really love them as well. This is going to sound really vain and silly but every night when I sit in the chair giving my daughter her night bottle, I have a straight view to the closet and I think about how much I like how it turned out and how useful the space is now (compared to what it used to be when it was my husband's office). We have the cheapest (just white) Elfa system for both closets and it's great. And, they have their big annual sale in January.

We've done several closets in 2 houses with the white wire shelving line from home depot. It might be rubbermaid, not sure. I take a lot of time measuring and sketching beforehand to plan it out and have always been happy with the results. If you have a decent sized closet the elfa stuff can get very pricey, and California closets is completely insane. The stuff we have has held up great. It's not as fancy looking but very strong and easy to work with.

I'll second the recommendation for Closet Stretchers. Had a few closets done and they are fabulous. My husband has also built out a few with the similar stuff from Home Depot. He's very handy, so it wasn't hard for him to install on a weekend. We have all our closets done now-so much more space and much neater!

How much do one of these Closet Stretches or California Closets cost? Are we talking 10K and up? I have a large 10x11 walk in and would love to have a company come in and orgainze the space, but I'm thinking it would get in to the thousands and thousands. Looking at the cabinetry, all I can think of is kitchen...

Those of you that have used Closet Stretchers - can I ask roughly how much you paid and the size of your closets? I'm just trying to figure out wether this is even possible for us - we live in a small, old house with teeny closets and oh, how I would love to have some more usable space. I just don't know whether it's within our reach. TIA!

Last year, I got an estimate of 12k from CC for a similarly-sized closet. I passed: the design and materials were nothing exceptional, and I had a hard time figuring out what the 12k were paying for...At the end, we decided to use the walnut/platinum Elfa combo for 3k on sale ( about 5k at regular price). Paid someone to do the installation. Very happy with the outcome overall.

This site is the BEST for closet organizing systems. It is a DIY option, with online design software. Makes Elfa look like crap:

I paid $400/closet at Closet Stretchers several years ago. Those were for my kids' rooms.
