need restaurant suggestion

Husband turning 40. Already going away with the guys for an event. I want to take him somewhere nice with the kids. Any suggestions around Bethesda?
Don't want to do something ordinary like Rio Grande. Need someplace nice but we are bringing kids with us.

Are you looking for ethnic food or not? In Bethesda, that makes a difference.

Black's is a nice place. It's not as good as Black Salt and I'm always a little underwhelmed for the price when I go. But it is one of the nicer places in Bethesda for a special occasion.

I also like Baccus.

You could always do Morton's or Ruth's Chris but don't go during peak hours with kids (if they are little or could be disruptive). But they aren't very unique.

I haven't been to Tragarra's since the 80s, but that was always a good special occasion place.

How old are the kids? And are you willing to go early, like 5:00?

If you go at 5:00, I think you can go almost anywhere in Bethesda. If the kids are at least 4 or 5, the options are wide open. If we are talking about a 1 and 2yo, that is different.

If older kids- I agree with the suggestion for Morton's. The food is good solid steakhouse. The chocolate souffle for dessert is phenomenal. It feels special and the kids will love the food presentation thing they do.

If younger kids? Mussel Bar, Mon Ami Gabi.

Mussel Bar is horrible. So loud and the food is just so so. Mon Ami Gabi is a good suggestion. Jaleo might also be an option. Lots of little plates for the kids to try.

My kids prefer Ruth Chris. Mortons is more like a mens clubhouse. We went to Ruth Chris on christmas eve last year and their were tons of families with kids there.

Againn in Rockville has been very child-tolerant without being the kind of a madhouse Rio Grande is. I've been 3x since they opened and haven't yet been disappointed. Nice cozy atmosphere, especially appropriate in this season.

I'd drive over to Silver Spring to Rays the Classics. It's casual enough to bring the kids, and you can get a really nice steak dinner to celebrate your husband's birthday.
