Please recommend bank for kids' savings accounts

I'd like to open savings accounts for my kids. The amounts involved will be minimal. Can you recommend a local bank that will do this for free? (Despite having lived in DC for several years, I still don't have a local account.) We live pretty close to branches of SunTrust, Chevy Chase Bank, Citibank, and probably others. Thanks!

This isn't a "local" bank per se, but I have an online account for DD at ING. They actually have a free "Kids" account.

Cardinal bank used to have a kids club. Great interest rate up 1000 dollars. One you hit the 1 grand mark...the interest rate goes way down.
