Converting Mini DVs to DVDS

We have 7 years of video on mini DV cartridges and it's about time to convert them to DVD. If you have done this, what did you use? Software? A service? Did you get a recordable DVD player and do it through the TV? What about one of those Sony machines that converts video and memory cards to DVDS?

I was going to do it through the computer but we have no firewire port on our computer, can we still do it this way?
