All Natural Bath Products

One of my new year's resolutions was to go greener...I need to get on it! Suggestions on good bath products (kids & adults actually) that don't have a bunch of chemical crap in them? Should I just go to Trader Joe's?

What about The Body Shop? There is also a store upstairs at Montgomery Mall that sells all natural homemade bath, body and make up. They are across from Coach I believe. I cannot remember the name. There are HUGE hunks of soap in the window, baskets of lotion that you can add oil scent to. Everything is very earthy looking and smells delicious.

Check out Dr. Bronner's soap products. Old, old company, USDA certified organic products, Fair Trade, etc. DH read about the company and ordered a case of the stuff. Try the eucalyptus and the peppermint. They have a great history and reputation, both for their soap and their business practices. www.drbronner.com

I second the Dr. Bronner's suggestion. I used to use this in college, and the bottles are a fun read. They make a supermild baby soap that I haven't tried yet, but love the peppermint one!

oooh...I love the Peppermint. I use peppermint oil from Whole Foods to wake up in the morning and also for headaches.

I think you might want to read the ingredients lists and do some research. The body shop has a lot of chemicals as does Lush (it is the place one of the earlier posters mentioned). I just recently got on a kick about this and was shocked when I looked at my Lush hand lotion as it has some of the ingredients you are supposed to avoid.

Check out: cosmeticsdatabase.com

This was mentioned in a thread recently and is a real eye-opener. Some of the "organic" products that I was purchasing are not all that great.

The Dr. Bronner stuff is in general safe and green (and cheap!). Many of the other organics are not safe but are expensive. And some basic fragrance free stuff is fine as well. For instance, Dove soap with no fragrance.

So, do a bit of research and you can save money, the planet and yourself!

11:43 here. I just checked out Dr. Bronner's on the database.

Every single one of their 42 products is in the "green" category. So you don't even need to have a list with you - buy them and you'll be safe!

sweet. I will definitely check out the Bronners. I have never heard of it before. Do I order it or do they sell it stores around here?

They sell it everywhere. Definitely Whole Foods, possibly even Giant, etc.

They have not changed their packaging in at least 30 year. So it's not flashy, but a PP was right - so much fun to read!

The peppermint is in a plain cylindrical bottle with a blue and white label covering the entire thing. It is crammed with itty bitty letters all over - they just have so much to say! Keeps you entertained while bathing.

Also makes the dog smell good (I think so, dog disagrees...)

Dr. Bonners is great! We take it camping because we can use it for our bodies, the dishes, everything and dont have to worry about it hurting the enviro when it washes away on the ground. We use it as shampoo too and then use the leave in conditioner. Makes those cold showers at the beach go faster!

Here's the website:

The sunglassed guy holding a bottle has the peppermint shampoo. I had no idea they had so many products!

I like Dr Bronner's except for the soap scum factor (we have hard water like everyone else in DC). We go for California Baby which ranks pretty well on EWG's Skin Deep database. You can get 1/2 and gallon sizes direct from California Baby if you order online.

My Organic Market (MOM) is another store to go to.

I couldn't stand the smell of the Burts Bees products, except their coconut foot cream for me.
