Infertility Support and Discussion
| Has anyone who hasn't been married for two years (say you've only been married one year or less) been denied IVF coverage by either Aetna or MDIPA? Were you denied for other reasons, such as no endo? I'm trying to figure out which plan will be best for allowing coverage. |
| I was not denied coverage, but I did have to send Aenta a copy of our marriage certificate (we have been married for well past two years). I was assuming it was to check that we were married, but maybe they were checking for how long as well. |
| MDIPA also requires you to send your marriage certificate. |
| 7:56 -- were you married for two years? Did MDIPA ask you any questions on how long you'd been trying? |
We were married for 5 years. The questions about how long we'd been trying were not applicable, as I was surgically diagnosed with stage iv endometriosis and had the documentation from my RE to show this. |

Wow. This post makes me hate the health care insurance companies. When I went through IVF, my insurance company did ask how long I was TTC. It was a few years ago, and I think I had to give a date of 1 year, although I think they cut that time to 6 months based on my "advanced" age. You may want to find out the rules from your insurance company before you provide any info to them.
In terms of a marriage certificate, I have to say that is BS. This should be illegal. Just wondering if this is a true requirement, or you're able to push back on this. Ugh. Good luck, hope it all goes well.

| Just had to show copy of marriage certificate. Didn't matter how long we had been married, only that we had been trying for 2 years. |
This is a true requirement of the Federal Aetna HMO plan. The requirement is put in place by the company you work for, not the insurance industry. When I had Aetna through a private employer I did not have to provide my marriage certificate. |
