Infertility Support and Discussion
| This is our 2nd try - my RE suggested a day 2 transfer. Some research indicates higher success rates for AMA women. I couldn't find any info to speak to this. We did a 3 day tranfer last time-negative. |
| I did one at my own request when I had a single embryo. It was a BFN, but most likely due to variables in my actual cycle. Some REs believe your body is the best place for an embryo, since it's the natural environment, and push for day 2 transfer. I don't see a downside. |
| I've always heard that the best days are 3 or 5 - I've never heard that day 2 is better for AMA. |
| I think if you don't have many embryos, it can't hurt to transfer at day 2. I only had 2 embryos fertilize, so we transferred both on day 2 and I'm pregnant with one. |
| I think most RE's are leaning towards 5-6 day blastocyst transfers, but the downside to transferring earlier is that you go through a 2ww whereas if you wait and your embryos arrest by day 5 you get your answer sooner. |

"I think if you don't have many embryos, it can't hurt to transfer at day 2."
14:53 here. The thing is, there are a number of big studies that show that days 3 and 5 are the best days to transfer, because that is when your body is in line with the embryo's stage of development in order to accept it and be ready to implant it. That's not to say that pregnancy doesn't occur when transfer happen on other days, just that the chance of pregnancy is higher when you line up the embryo with the women's body by doing a 3 or 5 day transfer. So the belief that it is best to put the embryo back as soon as possible isn't supported by the science. Now, as I said, I haven't seen any studies on transferring for AMA women, so perhaps that is an exception. But in general, it is best to stick with a Day 3 or Day 5 transfer (assuming the embryos will let you!). |
Really? Can you provide any links? My understanding was that there weren't any good studies comparing 2-day to 3- or 5-day transfers (controlling for other factors) and that it's just been done that way, so they have a better sense of which embryos are developing better. |
| I don't have the studies anymore, but CCRM gave me copies of several, and they have the best success rates in the country for AMA women so I trust their view in most regards (including this). |
