op here - this is how I've always heard it pronounced...until this weekend when MIL insisted that it's spa-TUL-a... WTF!??! then I thought maybe it was a regional thing? she's from MA... has anyone heard that pronounced like that before? |

From MA here with sister who still lives there, and never heard it referred to as anything other than spatch-ula.

| A friend's mother where I grew up in Vermont called it a Spa-Tul-a, but I just assumed that was because English was not her native language. |
