Irregular periods after birth

Anonymous
My baby is 5 months old and I've had only one period since stopping breastfeeding at 2.5 months. DH and I want to start TTC again in January. Are irregular periods common after birth? Has anyone used birth control pills or Clomid to regulate periods/stimulate ovulation after giving birth?

Yes, irregular periods can most definitely happen post birth. Did you have any IF issues prior to conceiving your baby?

Clomid is a very common drug used to stimulate ovulation. If I were you, I'd contact my OB or RE and have a CD3 panel workup done to make sure that my P4, E2 and TSH levels were all normal.

GL! We are going to TTC again for #2 in January as well (we are 6 mo. post birth on an IVF cycle)

I think everyone is different. For me it took a couple of months (4/5) for my cycles to regulate, but I was also still BFing. I don't know if taking BCPs would help regulate your cycle as I know a lot of people have crazy cycles after stopping the pill. Personally, I don't like Clomid and would not take it unless absolutely necessary. You should definitely check with you doctor to see what he or she thinks.

OP here. I did not have infertility issues prior to #1, but I had been on BCP since age 19, so over 10 years. We conceived after 3 months. I have an OB appt in Dec, so will ask her what is best.
