Best way to lose the last 5-10lb of baby weight - I need some accountability

Anonymous
I'm currently 6 months postpartum from #2, and it appears that the extra 5-10lbs of baby weight have no intention of leaving on their own, which is especially frustrating since I was actually below my PP weight at this point with #1, but oh well.

So I'm looking for advice on best diets / groups / etc. to help me get a handle on this and provide the accountability I need to actually follow through with it. I've thought about weight watchers, but I don't think I really need help on what I'm supposed to do, just on actually doing it, so don't know if that's a good program for someone like me. And beyond that I don't really know what the options are.

Only other constraint is I need something that is nursing friendly.

Thanks for any advice!

My last 10 lbs didn't disappear until a few months after I weaned. I think it's your body's way of holding on to some "emergency supplies" while you're nursing. Upping the cardio helped me. If you need "accountability", maybe you can take a group exercise class (like step or MMA or similar), so you are forced to work out for a certain amount of time and not slack off.

Thanks 22:10 - I like the suggestion of a class. I should probably figure one out, and then set the babysitter or DH up for that time so I'll feel obligated to go.

As for the holding onto the weight until weaning - my body didn't the first time around, but maybe that's something that's different with each kid too? Everything else has been different, so it wouldn't surprise me!

When you're nursing, you're carrying around about 5 pounds of misc material - milk, extra blood, etc. So you should experience some loss after you wean.

I'm 12 months now and I kept losing steadily after 6 months - probably a pound or two a month. So I wouldn't assume that your body is done yet!

I was the same way with #2 at 6 months, about 5-10lb left to go. It fell off slowly over the next 6 months, with no changes in eating habits (I was still nursing). I do exercise daily, and for those 6 months I did some hard-core interval training, too.

Well.. I nursed for 2 1/2 years and packed in 10 llbs after i weaned her off. I haven't been able to lose the extra weight despite going to JM's 30 day shred, a milk and yoghurt for breakfast and lunch diet, and a oatmeal for breakfast and lunch diet! So frustrated... I hate the way I look!

Sounds like Weight Watchers might work for you. It gives you the accountability and a way to really keep an eye on what you are eating. You don't have to buy any special food and they have a program for nursing moms. I actually disagree about waiting until you wean--that feels to me like just one more reason to put off doing what you know you are going to do anyway. I know plenty of women (including you, apparently) who managed to get down to their pre-baby weight while nursing, and in fact lots of them swear that BFing was the secret of their weight loss success.
