We were trying so I shouldn't be so shocked and freaked out but, we took 2 pregnancy tests last night. One said "pregnant" and the other was the line, with a very faint 2nd line. I'm assuming that this means positive. When do you schedule a first doctors appointment? And should I be doing anything special, other than taking pre-natal vitamins and eating right? |
call your doctor. They'll ask you the date of your last menstrual period and probably have you schedule your appointment based on that. |
Congratulations!
There have been a few threads on the topic, so you may want to search, but the consensus seemed to be that the OBs won't see you for a regular visit until you are 8/10 weeks. As far as what to do - eat healthy, take your prenatal vitamins, drink lots of water. Good luck! |
Based on your last period the first doctor appointment should be 8 weeks after that. I wouldn't recommend going earlier. Why? Well, if you go at 6 or 7 weeks it is not always possible to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound. I went at 7 weeks, they couldn't see they heartbeat and I was told I might have a miscarriage and I should come back in a week. I spent an entire week so upset, crying, worrying, and when I went back at week 8 - there was the heartbeat! I'm now 38 weeks pregnant. If the doctor had just told me to wait until week 8 I would have saved myself from being an emotional wreck. I've heard of this happening to other women too, not just me. That's just my little piece of advice.

Check with your doctor. I found out I was pregnant over the weekend, and the doctor told me to come in this week for blood work. They are going to confirm I'm pregant, check my hormonal levels, and give me information re do's and don'ts and stuff like that. They said that the appointment will only last 15 minutes or so. If this was my first child, they would've started asking about medical history at this appointment. So while some doctors say 8 weeks, your doctor might want to see you earlier. |
