I'm hoping that DC will sleep for most of it but just in case..... What would you recommend?
I know that watching TV is not the best of things at this age, but on an overseas flight it is a life saver....We brought a portable DVD with us and he watched his favorite DVD...
pop tube, tape, books
Bingo! 8 hour flight to Germany, and the Old School Sesame Street DVDs were beloved!
|
Roll of blue painter's tape. Not as sticky as masking tape, but easy to stick on stuff & remove

Stickers. Crayons/notebook. Snacks. A box of bandaids (the fun colorful kind) kept my 14 mo old amused for a while--taking them out of the box, putting them back in, shaking the box, etc ...
|
my 16 mo old is endlessly amused by digging through my purse. Before flights, I make sure it doesn't have anything chokable in it and let him at it.
I second the box of band aids... love this one. A new toy-- Target has a dollar section (not just up front but in the toy department) that is usually a good resource, snacks, Crayola Color Wonder book w/ magic markers.
... one more. I used to give my DD a baby wipe or hand wipe and ask her to clean the seat. She LOVED to do that and would work on it for at least 10 minutes if not more.
Thanks all for the great suggestions!

benadryl?
legos, books, playdough
wrap a small new toy and give it in the plane
A portable fold-up hairbrush entertains my 16-mo-old on flights. Also, a small flashlight/headlamp, little containers to open and close, and Scotch pop up tape tabs.
A bag of small, cheap new things - don't have to be toys, anything will do. We let DS watch some of the kid's movie on the seatback screen. And he was also fascinated with the map. Then he walked up and down the plane for about 4 hours with me and DH taking turns to sleep.
