Looking for daycare - what to ask and what to look for

Between maternity leave and family help, we can keep DC
At home for 4 months. Then we have put him in daycare.
This is our first child and have started looking for daycare
Centers(dc not due until Jan).
Please tell me what questions to ask and what do I look for
When I visit these places? We are also going to look at
a couple of home based centers.
Please do not leave out anything you think is obvious...please give
all suggestions.
We will have dc at care for about 9 hrs, mon thru fri and we
have all the regular fed holidays. The centers we have on list
So far are good commute and on the way to mine or dh's
work.
