| I might drive from DC to Connecticut (Fairfield County, various points) on Thanksgiving Day. Has anyone done this before? I'd leave at 5 AM. TIA! |
| We drove from DC to Brewster NY (near Fairfield CT) on T-day a few years ago. We left at like 5am and showed up at mu husband's family house a little after 9am. Everyone was still in their PJs having breakfast and shocked to see us so early! We had no traffic at all! Good luck! |

OP here.
Wow! Did you take the Tappan Zee Bridge? What day did you drive back? I was thinking Saturday. I'm more concerned about the return drive than the drive up. |
| Haven't done that route, but we routinely drove from Boston to New York on Thanksgiving morning, and it was a breeze. |
| We've done DC to NJ and there's always more traffic than I expect. But not TOO bad. |
That's been our experience as well; if you can't leave until noon on Weds, then wait until early Thurs a.m. to go. Coming back, definitely leave on Saturday -- Sunday's brutal. |

OP here. Thanks. There are supposed to be delays at the Delaware Memorial Bridge in both directions due to construction at the toll booths. I assume that means Thursday, too.

| Note that the delays are at the Newark, DE toll plaza, NOT the Delaware Memorial Bridge. There is a work around - I've detailed it in the NY Thanksgiving thread. |
| Leave by 5 AM at the latest and you should have a very easy drive. I did! (took GW bridge, Henry Hudson, Cross County to Merritt) |
| how bad is the road (trafic) from North Carolina to Canada on Wed. ??? has any body drove that distance before? |
