Infertility Support and Discussion
Has anyone done either Clomid or injectibles through CFA? If so, how often did you have to go in for bloodwork and/or an ultrasound? What was the approximate cost per month (without insurance, since we aren't covered...boo)?
I did both. With Clomid, you really don't have to be monitored all that often. I think once in the beginning and then again 5 days after you are finished taking the Clomid. With injectibles there is more monitoring. If I recall, you go in for bloodwork and sonograms every 2-3 days. The sonograms are important to make sure you aren't over stimulating and to know when you are ready to trigger. My insurance covered the monitoring, so I don't know what it would be out-of-pocket. I think they have a set price for a cycle if insurance doesn't cover it. You may want to ask their billing department.
I did injectables with CFA. My insurance didn't cover so it was $2,700 plus the cost of medications. Monitoring was every 2-3 days, which generally was bloodwork at every monitoring but ultrasound only every other time.
With clomid there are 4 visits per cycle: the first is blood and sono then they call to tell you to start the clomid. The second is blood and sono 10 days after you started clomid to check your response. The next is blood to check your progesterone level. The last is blood to check for pg.
If you want you can skip the final visit (blood for pg) and do a home pregnancy test to save on cost of visits.
I'm doing injectib;es at Columbia. I go in every 2 - 3 days for blood work, sono about every other time. If over the weekend, DC, otherwise my local office. I don't know cost.
