Recommendations for a comfortable and cute sofa bed?

Anonymous
We are looking to purchase a sleeper sofa. Any recommendations on a sofa bed that is comfortable, relatively stylish, and relatively affordable? Comfort is most important so we would be willing to pay a bit more for something that you would actually want to sleep on.

Comfort is hard to come by with a sleeper sofa. American Leather and Carlyle Convertables are known for their comfort, but can cost you upwards of $2500. We found a cute one at Haverty's (link below) and ended up getting a support board to block the feel of the metal bar and a memory foam mattress topper. Our retired parents just came and stayed a week and they said it was comfortable.

We got a kick-ass sleeper sofa for our basement bedroom, where our mother/MIL will be staying for many weeks while she helps us with our newborn #2. So for us, comfort was #1 importance. This was, after all, going to be her BED bed, not just an occasional sleeper.

So we sprung for something manufactured by American Leather (I thought they'd changed their company name?).

At any rate, here's some information:

What we liked was that the mattress was not springy, and the supports were wood slats. This means that the sofa is heavy (a downside) and a little bulkier than your standard sofabed. We've had two other grandparents sleep on it for several days straight (very good reviews!) and I"ve been sleeping there, too, as I suffer from late-pregnancy heartburn and stay up all night -- don't want to be disturbing my husband who's a light sleeper.

Goodluck!

You could consider some sofa beds by Ikea as well. In my experience, they are comfortable and easy to set up. Ikea also tends to be very reasonably priced and you can go see their items in person and test them out at one of their stores.
