Is anyone happy with the Mirena? If not why?

Are you unhappy with the Mirena? If so, why?

I felt like it made me moody and short-tempered. I got it removed and replaced with a Paragard. I'm much more even tempered these days.

Never had a problem with it. Period practically disappeared. No mood swings over and above normal mood swings.

Love it. I had major problems with other hormonal BC but none with Mirena.

love it ... but i never had any problems with pills or ring either.

Loved it because I had no period for 2.5 years, but took it out because I thought it was killing my libido. Turns out, though, that may have just been having a 2.5 year old. Give me a few weeks and I can let you know....

It's not perfect but I'm pretty happy with it. Initially I gained 5 lbs, developed cystic acne and had 2-3 really bad mood swings. Those three things settled down to almost nothing. Just went to the derm. today to talk about the acne. It's minor but it's there. The best part is my period disappeared but I had some heavy cramping at random times for a few months (learned to carry Ibuprofen around with me). I'm so happy to be free of my monthly period that I'm willing to accept the other things.

I am considering having mine removed. I had it inserted 6 weeks postpartum and have steadily gained 25 pounds over the last three years. In essence, I re-gained my pregnancy weight. I can't seem to lose weight easily either and have been very moody and short-tempered. No libido either.

Really liked it...just remember it's a longer term solution (of course it can be removed at anytime)...but it could take your body some adjustments to get used to it, so having some patience is a good thing. There is some spotting for the first few months which is annoying but in the long run it worked very well for me and there is an immediate return to fertility when you're ready. Trust me on that one.

I LOVED it. No period at all for over three years. Never had to think about it. Never felt it. In fact, when I had it removed, I was pregnant in the first cycle, so I never even regained my period!

That being said, my husband had a V after the birth of my second child, so I did not have it reinserted and my libido is WAY better than it was a year ago. I'm not absolutely sure it is the Mirena, but it might have been.

For me, it turns out that the 3-6 months of "spotting" that I was supposed to expect is like having my period, full on, without an end in sight. I had mine put in 4 weeks ago and I still am bleeding just like a period. This is not what I consider "spotting"! I feel like I can't really enjoy a full sex life until this stops. If this so-called "spotting" is really going to last for six months -- that's 10% of the 5 years it's supposed to be in me!

I had spotting for about 6 weeks after I had it inserted, which was SOOOO annoying. Also, I was steadily losing my baby weight until I had it inserted (at 10 weeks PP) -- after it was put in, I plateaued with weight loss and could not lose the last 8 lbs. I did finally lose the weight, but it took intense, extreme effort (we're talking 45 minute intense running 6 days a week, along with 1200 calories a day). I love the Mirena because I have also never gotten my period -- but this leads to some pregnancy paranoia. I know someone who got pregnant with one (and she was 40)! Also, my sex drive is nonexistent. This also happened when I was on the pill and I hate it. I was too scared to get the paraguard though, b/c I did NOT want to deal with the heavy periods.

I had mine in for a year...hated it! I was definitely moody, whereas I am not normally moody at all. No pms previously. It seemed to get worse as the year progressed and when I had it removed I was a complete wreck for six weeks. I'm guessing it took that long to get all the hormones out of my system. FWIW, I was never one to be sensitive to the hormones in bc pills, I could take anything without any real side effects. Decided on a tubal ligation after that.

To the PP that had period-like spotting... same here. I had mine put in mid-October and my "spotting" (not really spotting to me when I have to use 2-3 tampons a day) is still around. I had a break last week where I thought it was finally over but it's back with a vengeance. I keep telling myself it'll be worth it once this part is over... just have to get through it! It's still bettter than the pill, at least for me. I hate taking it, can't remember and absolutely can't trust myself enough - and we do NOT need a #3 anytime soon.

I have had mine for about a year and I love it. The first couple of conths were tough, I could feel the strings, I had my period along with this thick dark brown icky discharge for about 2 months after insertion, I had bad lower back pain for a couple of months also. Just when I decided to have it removed, the symptoms started clearing up and I feel like a million bucks!

I used to have horrible, heavy, long periods and have tried everything. I could never remember to take the pill, nuvaring gave me insomnia, the depo shot made me psycho, gain 10 lbs and made my hair fall out (all within 3 months!!) and I wasn't interested in having a patch on me all the time. With mirena I see some spotting every few months. Ahhhhh, life is goooooood
