The city of Takoma Park allows undocumented individuals vote in local elections. I don't know if anyone takes them up on that offer, though. The message you send to kids is this: the law is more complex than what is legal and what's illegal. Some laws prohibit things that are unequivocably evil, like unjustifiable killing of another (murder). Some laws prohibit things that are not necessarily evil, but which disrupt the civil order, like parking at an unexpired meter. These are two examples on opposite ends of the spectrum obviously, and being an illegal immigrant falls somewhere in the middle. Where you think it falls depends on your value system. |

| I'm familiar calling immigrants (period--no legal/illegal distinction) "New Americans," and I have no problem with it. It seems to me that if we want people to integrate into our society, we'd do well to call them something that assumes integration. |

OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD he was talking about legal immigrants, not illegals.
"After TBD mentioned the comments Monday, an O'Malley spokesman e-mailed us to insist that the governor was referring to legal immigrants when he spoke about "new Americans." There, that's what he meant. If you think that legal immigrants and illegals are the same, then you are just anti-immigrant. |

Cool. Let's just issue a blanket amnesty, then they won't be "illegal" anymore. Ever notice how not a single driver on our areas roadways actually obeys the speed limit? Seriously. Every single driver does at least 5 mph over the speed limit.
I find it disgusting that some liberal panty-waists simply refer to these "illegal drivers" as "drivers" or "commuters". Call them what they are: Illegal Drivers!!! Otherwise, what will we tell our children, and our children's children? After all, "what sort of message does it send to kids to allow people who break the law and not have consequences?" |

| What is absolutely appalling is the anger that the pseudo Christians on the right have against the undocumented workers? People from all over the world have been heading to the US for a better life, some comply with our immigration laws, some do not. All of us must respect the hardship faced by our fellow human beings who are only trying to better their lives for themselves and their families. Hispanics in the US send huge amounts of money back to their countries of birth to support their families. Let's be real. I assume noone believes that all of the Irish, Italians, Germans who came to the US did so legally. How many do you think falsified papers, used false names, etc. The movie Titanic featured one guy who arguably was not entitled to come to the US. |
