We live in chevy chase area right now. but we are going to move to rockville area near the college.
How do you feel about this neighborhood? Is it friendly for international family? Our daughter is going to enter the kinder next year. We wanted to stay in the chevy chase area because of the good school, but we cannot afford to buy the house in this area, so we decided to move up. Do you think College garden ES and Richard Montgomery HS are good schools? |
College garden ES and Richard Montgomery HS are reasonably good schools, from what I heard |
College Gardens is a great place for an international family...it is a very diverse place. The schools strength ( and challenge) is to accomodate everyone's needs. It has a new building with great tehcnology but which is also already overcrowded. Portables are definitely in its future. |
Your best bet would be to visit the school in person, observe classes and meet with the principal. |
We lived in Woodley Gardens (College Gardens' neighbor). The school is Beall, and although we did Catholic school, parents raved about it. I cannot say enough good things about Woodley Gardens! Beyond family/kid friendly, beauitful wooded area, very convenient to major roads/hwys. If you prefer one ES over another (college gardens or beall) be sure to find out if the home you buy is districted for the school you prefer. There is a very fine line b/w where Beall ES is districted and where College Gardens is fed. |
I live in Derwood, about 2 mins from the college and my kids go to Candlewood Elem. Derwood is basically just incorporated into Rockville.
We love Candlewood. We moved here from out of state and from a very competitive school district too, and Candlewood blows it out of the water. I have never seen a more involved parent base or PTA, and the people are so sweet. My gifted and talented older two had a hard time keeping up at first, but the staff did everything they could to make the transition easier. It is a wonderful school, I can't say enough. |
Our kids are at College Gardens, and we've been happy over the years (multiple kids, 5+ years). Definitely great for an international family, and my our kids have gotten a good education. The College Gardens neighborhood is also fantastic. We have great neighbors. |
To each his own. What may be right for you may not be right for the next person. |
PP, Can you elaborate on your reply, do you have problems with the school or neighborhood? |
