Infertility Support and Discussion
It looks like we are planning for our first IUI at SG the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Unfortunately we are flying back that morning and don't arrive in town until after 11:00 which means we could get to SG by 1:00. I understand that you schedule two appointments, one for hubby and then my appt an hour or so later. Do you think they'll be willing to do the procedure with our timeline or should we try to change our flight to get back the night before? Also is there any problem with flying immediately before an IUI? We have an appt with our doctor this week but any info that you can provide about the time of IUI weekend appts at SG would be great. Thanks!
I would ask but to avoid the stress of potential delays I would come back a day early. I know their hours are different on weekends but not sure how much. when I have gone on the weekends it's always been at 7 am
I would plan to get back the night before. They try and finish procedures as early as possible, esp on the weekends. If there aren't a lot of the IUIs scheduled, then they could be done before 11. Even on the busiest of days, it is highly unlikely they would still be doing sperm washes as late as 1pm and IUIs at 2pm.
I've never had an IUI that late. They start early and get everyone in and out.
Not true - I recently did a drop-off and IUI at the SG Rockville location on a Sunday at 1pm/2:30 pm. You should ask before you spend money changing your flight!
I would either change the flight or postpone the IUI for a month. what if your flight is delayed or you can't get an afternoon appointment? it's not worth the stress.
When I did my IUI at SGF on the weekend in Rockville they told me that they start booking appointments in the earliest time slot (I think around 7 a.m.) and then keep booking them in whatever increments they use after that. You don't know the exact date of your IUI until a couple of days before so I would wait until the late afternoon to call and make my appointment for the weekend, hoping that the early morning appointments had been filled (I just didn't want to get up that early on a weekend!). And yes, your husband goes in with his sample and then you go a couple of hours later. I would at least try explaining your situation and see if they can work with you.
How do you know you will do the IUI on that date? It depends on your follicles and how they are growing, etc when you will trigger. I've never had it happen exactly on my target date. Some times I'm a day or two early and sometimes later. You never can tell. Additionally, you will be monitored every day right before so how can you travel?
Agreed. Impossible to predict an actual IUI date - it depends on how quickly your follicles are maturing. For you to have an IUI on Sunday would mean you are trigering on Friday night, which means you need to have a scan and blood test either Thursday or Friday (so that they know you are ready to trigger). When was your cd1? |
