Is it worth getting a cast iron dutch oven (for cooking beginner)?

I do really basic cooking. Is this worth getting?

Yes, I love my Le Creuset. The lower sided one is my favorite pan for pretty much everything.

Absolutely.

Yes. Invest in a few high quality pieces (a 6 qt dutch oven, 2-3 qt pot, a 12 inch skillet, and a good chef's knife) and cooking will be a pleasure.

the reason why it's worth it is because it conducts heat so much better (the pot as a whole heats up more quickly than others), which makes boiling water for pasta a cinch, and it's versatile. you can use it for soups, you can stick it in the oven for no-knead bread and no handles will melt off, you can braise meats in it... it does what any other huge pot would do, only better.

also, don't buy a le creuset full price if that's what you're looking at. i see them at marshall's all the time.

Yes, it is well worth the investment. Get a medium sized one (one that can hold a 4 lb chicken) and you will see how useful it is.
