Hi, I'm 33 weeks and suddenly panicking about Sibley (I'd like to have a natural birth). Has anyone delivered at Shady Grove since the mother-baby suites were completed, I think in Nov., and how was the experience? thanks! |
why are you panicking if I may ask? I am planning to deliver in Sibley and had my concerns as well so I was wondering what is bothering you.
My co worker just had a baby in Shady Grove last week and she was happy about it. Nothing special but she was satisfied. |
OP here. I just started meeting the other OBs at my practice (because odds aren't great my regular OB will happen to be on call), and the one I just saw said that at Sibley, the anesthesiologists essentially rule the roost, so their feelings about interventions, IVs/heplocks, food/drink, etc. trump everyone else's, including the dr's. I don't have any reason to believe that I'll need a C-section (I mean really need one, not an OB-wants-to-decrease-liability-C), so why should my labor be treated as surgery prep?
I hate the idea of changing things up at the last minute, but I wasn't thrilled with the Sibley mat ward tour either, from the shared rooms to the idiot tour guide lady.. I haven't toured Shady Grove yet, though. Which is why I'm interested in others' experiences there. |
PP here: I absolutely feel the same way about the mat ward tour and the shared rooms though I keep hoping that I will be lucky enough to get a private room (that I will be paying for of course). I wasn't too impressed with the nurses either (half asleep on their desks) but assume these were weekend nurses and not the L&D nurses. I just couldn't believe that the tour guide was going on about hygiene while the postpartum rooms al have (very old) carpeting!!! OMG how disgusting is that?
Sibley is conveniently located for me and I am not aware of the story about the anaes. ruling there. My OB/GYN, dr Engel (Foxhall) says that they would always do everything to avoid C-section or medical intervention if it's not necessary/required and I do trust him on that. Besides, I've experienced child birth before and can tell you that I felt I was in control the whole time. It's too late for me to switch anyway but I would be curious to find out what you think about Shady Grove after you have taken the tourl Good Luck! |
