I am just curious. I am 40 and have not had a postive HPT on my own. My FSH and estrogen are fine and my AMH is 1.0. So it seems like I should be able to get pregnant. I probably don't eat as many veggies as I should and usually have a sweet treat each day but I workout and my BMI is 19. Just curious if anyone has changed their diet to a fertility diet and had success.

| I tried changing my diet - eating only organic, warm cooked meals of protein and good carbs and didn't get a positive HPT. The month I did get pregnant, I ate sushi, raw foods and sweets, as well as drank alchohol. Go figure. |

I improved my diet when TTC because it's important to be in the best health possible while TTC and while pregnant, but that being said I had a few lapses. I think your overall health is important and an occasional treat or glass of wine will not hurt especially if it makes you happy:

| OP, perhaps gaining a few pounds might help? BMI of 19 is pretty thin, though not technically underweight. |

I've heard some rec getting rid of dairy, wheat, other common allergins. Apparently even semi-allergic reactions could theoretically cause your body to work against an embryo implanting. That's the theory, anyway. I don't know how accepted it is in the wider medical community; my sense is not very.
If you are really keen to check out nutrional impact on fertility, Pulling Down the Moon (affiliated with Shady Grove) has an office and nutritional counseling. I believe they work with folks trying both naturally and otherwise. Good luck! |
| If you have any food sentitivities - don't eat them! More doctors are coming around to the idea that they can cause low-level inflammation, which can impair implantation. That being said - healthy, organic.... Have you charted your BBT? |
| I don't mean this in a negative way, but if you are 40, eat reasonably well and are active, diet is not really something worth focusing on. |
| I had success by decreasing sugar from my diet. Your blood sugar affects all of your body's processes. I eliminated processed sugar, and limited natural sugars too - those found in dairy, fruit, etc. Worked for me. Good luck! |

I'm 40 with normal FSH and estrogen but an AMH of 1.0 and my RE told me that is not in the normal range and suggests that I will have difficulty conceiving (which is what I've observed over the last year). That being said I did conceive the month I decided to do a low carb diet (but we terminated due to a TS unfortunately).
Maybe you have read the book "The fertility diet"? - I think it can't hurt. |
| I followed my OB's advice and lost 15 pounds by avoiding all processed foods especially sugar. I haven't gotten pregnant yet but changing my diet has made a huge difference in my cycle so I believe I can continue and hopefully conceive w/o intervention. It's so hard to change old habits but I think we have a lot more control over our health than most people realize. If my diet was causing cycle irregularities then it probably was affecting a lot of other organs. |
| I don't think changing your diet can cure problems such as AMA, blocked tubes or male factor, but it can definitely help with your overall health and ability to deal with the side effects of treatment and the stress. |
