Gonal F Pens

Anonymous
I have some gonal f pens that I do not need. I know this has been posted before but do most people give them away or give them to the RE? They pens are unused and unopened.

People do both. It's really depends on how comfortable you are with giving directly to someone or going through your clinic. If you are ok with giving them to someone directly, then I could definitely use them! My email is peapod68@hotmail.com.

I also have an extra pen and was wondering the same thing. Is there any guarantee that my RE will give it to a patient that needs it? In the past when I couldn't get my meds delivered in time, they would give me a pen and I would bring in one of the pens when my meds arrived, so it was an even exchange. I don't want my donated pen to be used for that though, I want it to go to someone who needs it.

My suggestion is to talk to your nurse (if you have an assigned nurse) and explain that you want it to go to someone in need of the drugs vs. someone who is waiting on a mail order. There is no guarantee that they will do it that way, of course, (especially if you don't have an assigned nurse) but you would at least feel like you tried. The other option is to give it to someone directly.

I was a patient at SGFC and my nurse Pam always tried to help me out when she could. I'm was a 100% cash pay patient and it was so nice to get a Gonal - F pen or vial every now and again. Those pens are like $900 retail, so it was a big deal to me.

It's actually illegal to exchange prescribed medication so if you truly want to donate it, then leave your clinic out of it because my nurse got into trouble giving me a donated pen.

It also depends on if they've been refrigerated? If so they aren't good past 30 days. That's what the office told me.

Pens are good until expiration if unopened and refrigerated the entire time. If opened, then they are good for 30 days. If stored out of the refrigerator, the pen can be used for up to 3 months unopened and prior to expiration.
