Can we afford a $105k Range Rover or LX570?

People here don't care about cars at all. They don't even know what a Range Rover is.
This is fine because people have different tastes and priorities. You are a car guy. Buy you RR and enjoy it. Life is short. Have fun.

I have a range rover. I also make almost 1M a year and DH makes much much more.
I could never have imagined a car like that when I had so little money.

Sorry its the truth. You should not be driving that car.

DP here. What's your definition of "so litle money". Are you referencing the OP's 410k HHI? At what income level do you think it's okay to buy an RR? Genuinely curious.

Range rovers are a garbage car, but your advice is silly. The median HHI of range rover owners is 450k.

That's dumb. Who is dumb enough to spend 25% of their HHI on a car?

Pretty much literally everybody. Did you think you have to have a 100k income to own a Camry?

We are about the same age and income level. We waited until I was pregnant to look at a new (second) car. I'm so glad we did, it took us a year to conceive and we saved that car payment and insurance money.

We landed on $50k for a new car which comes out to a $500 car payment if we put $20k down. Trust me, you're going to want / need that extra $50k when kids come into the picture.

Oh noes, logic, reason, division by zero, does not compute, abort! abort!

Seriously how do you have so much income and savings at ~30??

If you income is on an upward trajectory and you are not in a hurry to establish wealth, then sure, whatever floats your boat. We are at a similar income, older with teens and a 1.5M house in a good school district in DC. We could not afford that car but it is not really on our radar as a want.

People saying kids are expensive are not kidding.

This is such dumb advice. As has been said many times over on these car posts, financing is cheaper than paying cash if your return on investments > interest rate on debt

NP. You’re the dumb one. What happens if one of them loses their job? Cheap rates on financing will be irrelevant. They have $500k mortgage. That should be paid down to a more comfortable balance before starting a family. Silly to add another $100k in debt for an asset that will lose in value when they drive off the dealers lot.

It would be a very bad choice.

We bought a new LX in 2006. It’s needed oil changes, brake pads, and tires. It was $75k. People that told us it was dumb to spend that much have bought a few cars since. Buy a LX and be done for years.

HHI isn’t really the most relevant measure when talking about luxury goods. I drive a RR, and our net HHI was under $150k last year. Net worth on the other hand….

FWIW, I love the way it drives, it’s a beautiful car, and we’ve had zero mechanical issues.
