GDS Lower and Middle Schools will be moving to new digs next year. Currently under construction. Yeah, the current building looks like it is being held together with duct tape. |
I’m sorry you had that experience. Our meetings with the Assistant Director and a couple of other staff members (last year) were the opposite - really nice, down to earth people. |
I expected NCS would be really uptight and snooty. Boy did I get that wrong. The people and the atmosphere there were among the nicest and friendliest of any school we have visited. |
You must be new to the DC private school population if you think this is abnormal. |
...and almost immediately brand new things got ruined because the roof leaks when it rains. Whoops! |
|
I agree! I went in to the process thinking I favored Holton, but the AD at NCS blew me away. And I don't want to overstate...but I think she is changing the culture of the school dramatically. My daughter loved the Holton campus, it is beautiful. But it's pretty hard to beat the feeling that comes from being at the Cathedral (we are Episcopalian fyi). |
Browne - doesn't get the "likes" on this forum. Admission director, John and Elise were both nice and welcoming. Being a minority, I was happy to see the diversity. The head was nice and nice campus.
There was even another parent in the mandatory play date because their newest child would be starting in preschool. They had a 2nd grader. it was nice to have a current parent there and give feedback. I was surprised at the gym space. fairly new with windows. |
Wow, I'm sad to hear that. Our girls were at Langley before we moved out of town and we couldn't have had a better experience, from the admissions process all the way through their last year there. To us, the school felt like a warm hug. I'm sorry you had such a different experience. I will say that all the teachers my girls had were wonderful and the community of parents was amazing. We were actually more pleased by the in-person stuff than expected, although this was a few years ago. |
I am actually in year #10 of being a parent in the DC independent school world. Began @K, eldest is now in 9th. 3 different co-ed schools in Ward 3 (two of which have been mentioned on this thread, and the one where the kids have spent the most years has not been been given the HGTV / TripAdvisor / Pinterest treatment on this thread — yet) |
If you are from New England originally and that is your bar, then you prepare to be disappointed going forward. DC does not compare. St. Alban's might be the closest thing, but it's no Deerfield or Exeter.... |
My daughter loved her tour and visit but did not like it when she got there. We felt like they’re selling a different product than they’re actually making. |
I am just laughing at this so funny |
It's been a few years but there was definitely a rat/mouse problem at Maret a few years back. NO food could be left anywhere and there were regularly droppings around |
Maret. Forget the cosmetics of the building - I just wasn't impressed by the kids that we saw. Super rehearsed, but got a lot wrong. They just didn't seem very smart |
